Carmen Jacob, President of NextGen, grew up in Guatemala and came to the United States in 1972 when her husband, Chris, completed his service in the U.S. Army. She obtained both business and nursing degrees from her native Guatemala and her early business experience included healthcare and banking, sales and recruitment. Carmen continued her career and became the Executive Assistant to the Guatemala Minister of Public Health. Fast forward to the states where Carmen then worked as a collateral analyst with Continental Bank in Houston Texas, learning the intricacies of banking and finance. From there, Emerson Electric sent Carmen and her husband Chris, to work in South America and Mexico as business managers to provide management and training. Eight years in Latin America gave them the opportunity to manage operations and become integrally involved in Information Technology, which proved to be a turning point in Carmen’s professional life. A return to the U.S. brought the family to St. Louis. Recognizing that there was a need for IT staffing for Fortune 500 companies, Carmen helped establish NextGen in 1997. As a woman pioneer in the industry that was dominated by men, Carmen was still inspired to start her own business. "It was a dream...only in America is this possible," she said.

Throughout the years NextGen’s president has been completely dedicated to diversity and brings her enthusiasm to every venture. The firm is a Certified Woman-Owned Enterprise and a Certified Minority-Owned Enterprise. Carmen, personally, and her company, has been recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal and Inc. Magazine throughout the years for a continued commitment to diversity in the work place. In addition, other awards include the peer-nominated St. Louis Diversity Supplier of the Year, awarded by the St. Louis Minority Business Council, the St. Louis City Diversity Spotlight Award, and awards from NextGen clients, including SBC's Supplier Recognition as Outstanding Supplier and Ameren's Outstanding Service Award.

A community activist, Carmen is involved in numerous charitable organizations. Known for her vivacious personality and spirit, Carmen embodies the very values NextGen aspires to uphold. When she is not networking, attending civic events or working, Carmen can be found volunteering for her church. Having put down roots in our fair city and with the firm’s headquarters in St. Louis, Carmen, her husband Chris and their family continue to live and embrace everything St. Louis has to offer.
